The Journalists Association “Novomedia”

"The transformation of media returns the transformation of nation"

The Novomedia Association is the all-Ukrainian non-governmental journalistic organization. It was founded in 2004 on the initiative of journalist Ruslan Kukharchuk. The Association unites Christian journalists and other creative stuff of different media in two common ways: spiritual unity and professional interests.

For today, Novomedia  Association  includes about 200 members from secular and Christian media and has representatives in the majority of regions of Ukraine. There are also members of the community in Russian Federation, USA and Canada.

Mr. Volodin, Dnipropetrivsk:

“For me, Novomedia has opened a window to the world of real, actual journalism. Of course, I haven’t immediately become a professional journalist (and I doubt I ever will, considering my age). But I have realized the significance of my personal presence in the information space, just like the Bible says, “let your light shine before others…“. And I do my best to convey this understanding to the young generation of Christians.”

In 2013, Novomedia Association played a significant part in my life. I got a strong professional impulse from the New Journalist school. As soon as graduated it, I started to run a regular blog, although it technically existed for over 2 years then! Moreover, the blog became more popular, the content improved, and I give most of the credit for these positive changes to Novomedia.

I also realized a desire and a possibility to read books on journalism and to transform the knowledge I received in the New Journalist school – into concrete actions, particularly in a Christian newspaper that I currently publish with my church fellows.

Regarding the Novomedia Forum that took place in the Ukrainian House in November 2013, this event proved as vital for me as water for a fish. The Forum offered a pool of interesting topics and introduced us to professional journalists ready to share their experience.

Novomedia jumpstarted me. After the conference “Christianity Online 2006” I created my first Christian website and ‘plunged’ into creating and administering websites. Later, after I graduated a university with a degree in Sociology, I worked in several internet projects. Besides internet mastery, Novomedia gave me experience in creating a church bulletin, which has been a part of my ministry. I am really thankful to the Association for the great many enjoyable and useful events! My current job (website administration for Kharkiv City Council) is also a result of the knowledge that I obtained at Novomedia workshops and conferences.

To some of us Novomedia helps to decide on their calling, to find their path, offers new and exciting things. But most importantly, Novomedia unites people of such a challenging profession with one common idea – the mission given by Christ: “Go and make disciples…”
